The Tom Hardy three-quel opened with the franchise’s lowest gross in the US, but foreign markets saw a significant boost to the premiere.
Tom Hardy’s Venom: The Last Dance opened in the US with around $51 million in its opening weekend, the worst debut of any installment in the franchise. This is reported by Variety.
For comparison, the first Venom collected 80 million dollars in the first weekend in the USA, and the sequel Carnage – 90 million. However, the film had better success in the global market: international fees of 124 million dollars helped to increase the total box office to 175 million dollars.
However, Venom’s budget was $120 million, which is relatively modest compared to this year’s expensive blockbusters like the third Deadpool and the Joker sequel, which each cost $200 million.
The previous parts proved to be much more profitable at the global box office: the first film collected 856 million dollars, and Carnage brought in 500 million during the entire period of screenings.
It was previously reported that Sean Levy’s Deadpool and the Wolverine became the highest-grossing movie in the US, taking in $636.3 million and surpassing Greta Gerwig’s Barbie.
